US Paralympic Trials
October 3rd–14th Newport Rhode Island
The trials are over and we took 2nd! We are the official alternate and training partner for team one. Nick Scandone and Maureen Tucker won the trials and deserve their spot. They sailed a perfect regatta and left us to battle it out for 2nd with Karen Mitchell and JP Creignou. Once again we kept everyone on the edge of their zodiac seats by making the last day of the regatta the decider. We had to beat Karen and JP in both races to take over 2nd, to once again prove ourselves as the better team. We beat them in two close races, but it was our amazing starts that put us out in front were we needed to be! We worked on our starts extensively with our coach, Stan Schreyer, and it paid off. Picking the correct side of the course and sailing downwind with great speed and near perfect gybing angles gave us the lead we needed and held to take two bullets and 2nd overall! It was an exciting finish to an amazing week of racing. All of the teams went home knowing that we all sailed to the best of our abilities. However, we can only get better and the training will commence this January down in Miami. We hope that you will all stay posted and continue to follow our schedule of new adventures! Thank you again for your support and constant dedication to the success of Team Metedeconk!
